Portable apparatus for wave-spectral analysis of surface waves
Detailed Description
Scientists can transport this portable, continuous harmonic wave-spectral analysis of surface waves (SASW) apparatus to remote, hard-to-reach locations, like here along the Nabesna River in Alaska. Following the November 3, 2002 Mw 7.9 earthquake on the Denali and Totschunda faults, scientists conducted two investigations:
- to map the regional extent and severity of liquefaction ground failures and assess the geotechnical properties, and
- to profile the soil properties beneath seismometers located at Alyeska Pump Stations.
