Redirected Recharge from Impervious Surfaces on Long Island, New York

Detailed Description

Redirected Recharge from Impervious Surfaces on Long Island, New York: The figure above shows the areal extent of impervious surfaces that cause rejected recharge and the distribution of recharge basins across Long Island, NY.  Impervious surfaces in the more urbanized areas of western Long Island limit the amount of natural recharge that can reach the water table.  Most of this water that is not evaporated at the surface is redirected via storm drains to recharge basins that allow for this water to reach the water table at these locations or discharges directly to the coast.
