Sandbar in a side channel, Browns Park, Green River.
Detailed Description
View looking at a shallow side channel of the Green River in Brown's Park, Colorado. The picture is taken looking downstream from the left bank of the river. In the foreground and on the opposite bank are stands of sandbar willow (Salix exigua). Further beyond, are stands of Fremont cottonwood (Populus fremontii). The side channel shows a sandbar that is exposed during the daily low flow when Flaming Gorge Dam is not generating power. The sandbar becomes submerged during the daily high flow, when the dam is generating power. The sandbar has rope strung on it, which is helps delineate a systematic grid used to sample sediments for microplastics.
