Index map of northern California showing northern San Andreas fault (NSAF), regional faults (U.S. Geological Survey and California Geological Survey, 2010), and area of this investigation (Fig. 2, box). NSAF is the transform fault boundary between the Pacific plate and the Sierra Nevada‐Great Valley microplate (relative plate motion of 39 mm/yr).
