USGS is investigating ways to balance community fire risk management and native habitat conservation as part of the USGS Southern California Wildfire Risk Scenario Project, analyzing both human factors and natural factors.

Scientists from USGS, National Park Service, Conservation Biology Institute, and University of Wollongong in Australia are collaborating on this research, hoping to find new tools and solutions to support fire hazard managers and community planners in southern California.
