USGS Storm Words: Dune Erosion

Detailed Description

The USGS has many missions before, during and after a major storm. Here is an explanation of a word we commonly use with our science.

Dune Erosion: This occurs when storm surge elevates waves higher on the beach, allowing them to attack and erode the coastal dune. Dune erosion makes properties behind the dune more vulnerable to future storms and the potential for overwash, our next storm word.
