WERC's Adam Backlin Releases Tadpoles to Historic Habitat
Detailed Description
JUNE 26, 2018: Adam Backlin, USGS ecologist, carefully releases some of several hundred yellow-legged frog tadpoles raised in captivity at the Los Angeles Zoo into a San Gabriel Mountain stream near Llano, Calif. -- the first reintroduction of the species ever undertaken in the Angeles Angeles National Forest. Today, fewer than 400 of the federally endangered frogs are holed up in five hard-to-reach streams, all of them reduced to ribbons of shrinking ponds after years of drought.
