August, 2022 precariously balanced rock field work, northeastern U.S.
Detailed Description
USGS scientists from the Earthquake Hazards Program performed field work in August, 2022 to study precariously balanced rocks. The rocks can help us learn about the maximum earthquake shaking to have occurred in the Adirondack region of New York and northern Vermont since they were put in place after the retreat of the continental ice sheet ~19,000-14,000 years ago.
