Groundwater drawdown in Harney Basin 1970-2018
Detailed Description
A series of light colored maps of the Harney Basin in southeastern Oregon are overlain with color-coded lines representing simulated groundwater-level drawdown each decade from 1970 to 2018. Drawdown of 10 feet displays as light-blue lines, transitioning to purple at 50 feet of drawdown, to bright pink where drawdown is 100 feet. In 1970 groundwater levels do not show much drawdown, as each decade passes, groundwater drawdown increases in depth and by 2018 drawdown is substantial. In 2018, just to the north of Malheur Lake drawdown is as deep as 100 feet. A large area between Harney and Princeton shows at least 10 feet of groundwater drawdown with areas 40 to 50 feet deep east of Harney and southeast of Warm Springs Butte. Drawdown data were modelled using the Harney Basin Groundwater Model.
