Change Detection Implemented for WBD Downloadable Products

November 11, 2020

Watershed Boundary Dataset (WBD) downloadable products will now only be created when the national database has been edited.

The USGS has implemented change detection for Watershed Boundary Dataset (WBD) 2-digit hydrologic unit (HU2) and WBD national datasets for download. Previously, a new dataset was generated and staged for download every month regardless of whether or not changes were made to the data.

This new change detection process generates a new WBD dataset for download only when any attribute or geometry change is posted to the national database. Users can determine the date a HU2 or National product was generated on by looking at the “Last Modified” date to the left of the product link.

Change detection is only being implemented for WBD products at this time. It is possible that it will be implemented for other hydrography products in the future.  Please contact Lily Niknami (lniknami@usgs.gov) or Kimberly Jones (kjones@usgs.gov) from the WBD Team with any questions about this change.
