Mauna Loa is not erupting but it remains at volcano alert-level ADVISORY and aviation color-code YELLOW. You can read more about the USGS Volcano Alert-Level System here. Mauna Loa's alert-level and aviation color-code were raised in July 2019 and remain elevated because Global Positioning System (GPS) measurements continue to show slow, long-term summit inflation, consistent with magma supply to the volcano's shallow storage system. Monitoring data, however, do not indicate that a Mauna Loa eruption is imminent.
