In a newly published study, USGS scientists examine rare earth mineral resource potential within heavy mineral sands in the southeastern United States.

USGS scientists published their study, Rare earth mineral potential in the southeastern U.S. Coastal Plain from integrated geophysical, geochemical, and geological approaches, in the Geological Society of America Bulletin. The USGS used geophysical and geochemical data to map areas most likely to host heavy-mineral sands deposits, a potential source of rare earth elements. Learn more about the Geophysical and Geochemical Approaches to Evaluating Rare Earth Element Potential in the Southeastern U.S. project.

The Geological Society of America issued a news release about the publication on May 15.
