For USGS data products stored in non-USGS repositories, review, approval, release, and preservation requirements apply as described in SM 502.8 and SM 502.9. A copy of the metadata record that describes the data asset and includes a resolvable Digital Object Identifier (DOI), must be added to the USGS Science Data Catalog by sending the XML metadata record to ask-sdm@usgs.gov. The metadata record should accompany data stored in an acceptable non-USGS digital repository. These metadata should be maintained and updated as necessary (refer to SM 502.7).
