Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Phytoplankton Data from Owasco, Seneca, and Skaneateles Lakes, Finger Lakes Region, New York, 2019–2020 (ver. 2.1, June 2023) Phytoplankton Data from Owasco, Seneca, and Skaneateles Lakes, Finger Lakes Region, New York, 2019–2020 (ver. 2.1, June 2023)

This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) data release provides phytoplankton data collected as part of an advanced harmful algae bloom (HAB) monitoring study conducted in collaboration with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC). Samples were collected biweekly in association with continuous monitoring platforms in Owasco, Seneca, and Skaneateles Lakes, Finger...

Invasive Grasses Cheatgrass and Medusahead Yield Responses to Sucrose in Experimental Plots in the Northern Great Basin, USA Dataset, 2005-2006 Invasive Grasses Cheatgrass and Medusahead Yield Responses to Sucrose in Experimental Plots in the Northern Great Basin, USA Dataset, 2005-2006

Comma-separated values (.csv) files containing data related to plant biomass and seed production responses of invasive Bromus tectorum (cheatgrass) and Taeniatherum caput-medusae (medusahead) to varying sucrose treatments.

Bird Responses to Young Stand Thinning in Western Oregon in 2013 Bird Responses to Young Stand Thinning in Western Oregon in 2013

The US Forest Service, Pacific Northwest Research Station, and Oregon State University established the Young Stand Thinning and Diversity Study (YSTDS) in 1990 to demonstrate and test options for young stand management in western Oregon. The YSTDS is designed to determine if different thinning, underplanting, and snag creation treatments in 35-50 year-old plantations can accelerate the...

USGS Earthmap Capacity Assessment Dataset USGS Earthmap Capacity Assessment Dataset

The U.S. Geological Survey provides a wide range of scientific information to an even wider group of stakeholders. Understanding what capacities are needed and if and or where these capacities exist across the USGS landscape is critical in moving science to the next level of use, implementation, and visualization. The concept behind the groups organized to conduct and interpret the...

Fodar Orthomosaic and Digital Elevation Model of the Totatlanika River Corridor (Alaska) Acquired August 2021 Fodar Orthomosaic and Digital Elevation Model of the Totatlanika River Corridor (Alaska) Acquired August 2021

This dataset provides one orthorectified aerial photo mosaic and one digital elevation model derived from airborne fodar data acquired in 2021 on August 31 over the Totatlanika River in central Alaska. The term "fodar" is a portmanteau of foto and lidar, coined by Matt Nolan, which describes a method of quantifying the color and elevation of Earth's surface via airborne small-format...

Aerial Imagery of the North Carolina Coast: 2019-09-08 to 2019-09-13, Post-Hurricane Dorian Aerial Imagery of the North Carolina Coast: 2019-09-08 to 2019-09-13, Post-Hurricane Dorian

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Remote Sensing Coastal Change (RSCC) project collects aerial imagery along coastal swaths, in response to storm events, with optimized endlap/sidelap and precise position information to create high-resolution orthomosaics, three dimensional (3D) point clouds, and digital elevation/surface models (DEMs/DSMs) using Structure-from-Motion (SfM)...
