Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Relative tolerance of different life stages of Rio Grande silvery minnow to elevated water temperatures Relative tolerance of different life stages of Rio Grande silvery minnow to elevated water temperatures

Response of Rio Grande silvery minnow from three year classes and four age groups to one of seven temperatures (nominally; 28.5, 30.0, 31.5, 33.0, 34.5, 36.0, and 37.5ºC) and a control (25ºC) for 96 hours under static conditions

Skin mycobiomes of eastern North American bats Skin mycobiomes of eastern North American bats

North American bats have experienced catastrophic population declines from white-nose syndrome (WNS), a fungal disease caused by Pseudogymnoascus destructans (Pd). Although Pd can infect many hibernating bat species, population-level impacts of WNS vary by host species. Microbial skin assemblages, including the fungal component (mycobiome), can influence host resistance to infectious...

Effects of pulse duration on common hydroacoustic measures in Lake Erie in 2011-2012 and Ohio Reservoirs in 2017 Effects of pulse duration on common hydroacoustic measures in Lake Erie in 2011-2012 and Ohio Reservoirs in 2017

Hydroacoustics is a common sampling tool in freshwater and marine ecosystems, yet the full potential of this tool remains restricted, owing to an incomplete understanding of the influence of many data collection settings. In particular, investigation into the effects of the pulse duration setting on common hydroacoustic measures remains limited. Hydroacoustic theory suggests that pulse...

Development of an age estimation method for Grass Carp from North America Development of an age estimation method for Grass Carp from North America

The development of a reliable method of age estimation for Grass Carp is necessary for the successful management of this invasive species. Multiple federal and state agencies with assistance from commercial fishers collected adult Grass Carp from 2012 to 2018. Ossified parts were collected from these fish, and age estimates from them were compared to develop an age estimation method...

Inter-vessel comparison of hydroacoustic fish density in central Lake Erie, 2014 Inter-vessel comparison of hydroacoustic fish density in central Lake Erie, 2014

Hydroacoustic estimates of fish density are used for fisheries management in central Lake Erie. Data are sometimes collected from multiple vessels, raising the question of comparability of data collected among vessels. Hydroacoustic data were collected along three cross-lake transects in central Lake Erie in July, 2014 from three different vessels using similar equipment. Several...

Contiguous U.S. annual snow persistence and trends from 2001-2020 Contiguous U.S. annual snow persistence and trends from 2001-2020

Snow persistence (SP) or the snow cover index (SCI), is the fraction of time that snow is present on the ground for a defined period. Cloud covered index (CCI) is the fraction of time that there is no data, cloud, or sensor saturation for the same period. SP and CCI were calculated on a pixel by pixel basis using MODIS/Terra Snow Cover 8-Day L3 Global 500m Grid, Collection 6 obtained...
