Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Groundwater Levels and Surface-Water Stages on March 28, 2023, near the Quashnet River, Mashpee, Massachusetts Groundwater Levels and Surface-Water Stages on March 28, 2023, near the Quashnet River, Mashpee, Massachusetts

The U.S. Geological Survey measured groundwater levels and surface-water stages on March 28, 2023, near the Quashnet River in the town of Mashpee on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Groundwater levels and surface-water stages were measured over a ~7 hour time period to provide a synoptic snapshot of the water table and the water surfaces of streams, lakes, wetlands, and drainage ditches. The

Lakebed and Lake-Water Temperatures on September 8, 2022 at Moody Pond, Mashpee, Massachusetts Lakebed and Lake-Water Temperatures on September 8, 2022 at Moody Pond, Mashpee, Massachusetts

The U.S. Geological Survey measured lakebed and lake-water temperatures to identify areas of groundwater discharge (inflow to the lake) and recharge (outflow from the lake) at Moody Pond, a groundwater flow-through lake, in Mashpee, Massachusetts. The relative temperatures of lakebed sediment and lake water are indicators of the water flux direction across the lake bottom. Lakebed and...

Genetic Data for Evaluating Morphology Use to Identify Hunter-Harvested Geese Genetic Data for Evaluating Morphology Use to Identify Hunter-Harvested Geese

This data release contains one table of genetic data (mitochondrial haplotypes and nuclear microsatellite genotypes) used to evaluate utility of two morphological measures (culmen length and plumage color) to correctly identify groups of hunter-harvested dusky (Branta canadensis occidentalis) and dusky-like Canada geese on wintering grounds within the Pacific Flyway of North America...

Functional group cover and treatment data for 13 sites in the Great Basin with reburn history Functional group cover and treatment data for 13 sites in the Great Basin with reburn history

Land management treatments in sagebrush steppe are an important opportunity to break the annual-grass fire cycle, provided they offer long-lasting resistance to annual-grass invasion and do not burn. However, for BLM areas seeded as part of the Emergency Stabilization and Rehabilitation (ESR) program, one of the largest programs for land management treatments, about 1/4 have at least...

Plant cover data collected on roadsides treated with herbicide and bioherbicide in SW Idaho Plant cover data collected on roadsides treated with herbicide and bioherbicide in SW Idaho

The exotic grass-fire cycle is degrading semiarid rangelands, such as the vast areas of shrub-steppe in North America now invaded by fire-promoting cheatgrass. Chemical- or bio-herbicides are sprayed onto soils to inhibit the invaders, but information on chemical- or bio-herbicide effects on plant communities is limited. We asked how the plant community responded to the bioherbicide...
