Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Prioritized sites for conifer removal within the Utah portion of Bird Conservation Region 16, 2020 Prioritized sites for conifer removal within the Utah portion of Bird Conservation Region 16, 2020

Individual species often drive habitat restoration action; however, management under this paradigm may negatively affect non-target species. Prioritization frameworks which explicitly consider benefits to target species while minimizing consequences for non-target species may drastically improve management strategies. We examined extents to which conifer removal, an approach frequently...

Dust and sediment data from Great Salt Lake and northern Utah, 2022 Dust and sediment data from Great Salt Lake and northern Utah, 2022

These are physical and geochemical (elemental, strontium isotope) data from dust and sediments collected from and around Great Salt Lake, Utah. Data were collected by the U.S. Geological Survey Utah Water Science Center (West Valley City, Utah) to better understand the degree to which populations in northern Utah are affected by Great Salt Lake dust, dust from other sources, and metals...

New Source Rock Data for the Lewis Shale from the eastern part of the Southwestern Wyoming Province, Wyoming and Colorado New Source Rock Data for the Lewis Shale from the eastern part of the Southwestern Wyoming Province, Wyoming and Colorado

In 2021 the United States Geological Survey (USGS) sampled the lower part of the Upper Cretaceous Lewis Shale in the eastern part of the Southwestern Wyoming Province to better characterize its petroleum source rock potential for an upcoming resource assessment. Ninety-five samples from 24 wells were collected from well cuttings of the lower part of the Lewis Shale stored at the U.S...

Extent of Pliocene hyaloclastic deposits and related lava flows in the Columbia Gorge, Oregon and Washington Extent of Pliocene hyaloclastic deposits and related lava flows in the Columbia Gorge, Oregon and Washington

This dataset contains polygons representing deposits of hyaloclastic debris that were generated between about 3.5 and 3.0 million years ago when a series of basaltic lava flows entered the canyon of the ancestral Columbia River. The lava flows were erupted from volcanoes in the area of the Hood River graben of McClaughry and others (2012), generally have low-potassium tholeiitic basalt...

SEM-CL investigation of sedimentary organic matter samples SEM-CL investigation of sedimentary organic matter samples

High-resolution scanning electron microscopy (SEM) visualization of sedimentary organic matter (SOM) is widely utilized in the geosciences for evaluation of microscale rock properties relevant to depositional environment, diagenesis, and the processes of fluid generation, transport, and storage. However, despite thousands of studies which have incorporated SEM approaches, the inability...

Demographic Parameter Estimates for San Francisco Gartersnakes (Thamnophis sirtalis tetrataenia) for Fitting an Integral Projection Model Demographic Parameter Estimates for San Francisco Gartersnakes (Thamnophis sirtalis tetrataenia) for Fitting an Integral Projection Model

A study comparing reintroduction scenarios for the San Francisco gartersnake (Thamnophis sirtalis tetrataenia), an endangered subspecies native to San Mateo County and Santa Cruz County in northern California. Models for snake survival, growth, fecundity, and reproductive status were used to construct a demographic population model. Data are posterior distributions for demographic...
