The CASC Climate Adaptation Technical Services (CATS) team develops data and tools to improve access, visualization, and analysis for partner decision making.
Partners need climate-informed data that can be reliably accessed, visualized, or analyzed to support ongoing planning and management decisions. However, data for certain applications may need to be developed, and existing datasets can be difficult to access or apply in their current formats. To address this need, CATS provides data and tool development services that make scientific information easier for managers to access, explore, and apply to inform climate adaptation decisions.
An example of a recent data and tool development project is highlighted below.
Supplementary code, validation data, and visualization platform for a USGS daily streamflow projection dataset
Historical and future climate driven simulations of daily streamflow are available for the continental United States, but the size and complexity of these datasets create barriers for user accessibility and interpretability. This project builds upon a USGS developed streamflow dataset by increasing exploratory access to the data, adding contextual information, and generating supplementary data for validation. The resulting products include a supplementary code release, a data release, and an interim data visualization platform. These products aim to support natural resource managers in applying the data and making connections between physical hydroclimatic changes and ecological impacts.
