Who We Are

We are part of the USGS Energy and Mineral Resources Mission Area. 

Our scientists come from diverse backgrounds, bringing exceptional expertise to interdisciplinary teams. Our program includes geologists, geophysicists, geochemists, chemists, economists, engineers, statisticians, biologists, data scientists, GIS specialists and many more.

Our primary science centers include: 

• The Central Energy Resources Science Center addresses national and global energy geoscience issues and conducts interdisciplinary research on energy systems. 

• The Geology, Energy and Mineral Science Center conducts research on the occurrence, quality, and quantity, and availability of mineral resources in order to help the Nation make informed decisions using earth-science information.  

• The Geology, Minerals, Energy, and Geophysics Science Center (GMEG) works on issues related to geologic processes, mineral and energy resource potential such as rare-earth elements and geothermal resources, and past climate, primarily in the Western United States. 

• The Alaska Science Center (ASC) Center provides objective and timely data and science about the earth and its flora to support decisions regarding natural resources, natural hazards, and ecosystems in Alaska and circumpolar regions.
