From transportation to electricity, energy resources are critical to keep the Nation running. The world’s energy landscape continues to change, however, as technology advances, new energy needs arise and global relationships shift.

In this evolving landscape, our mission is to deliver the science necessary to in­­form complex decisions. 

We study both traditional and emerging energy resources, including low-carbon renewable resources. Our actionable science and tools support decisions related to all aspects of the energy resource lifecycle. Our science includes the origin, accumulation and distribution of geologic energy resources, the use of the subsurface for energy-related purposes, and the environmental and societal effects of resource development and use.
