Geomagnetically Induced Currents

Geomagnetically-induced currents (GICs) flowing along electric power-transmission systems and other electrically-conducting infrastructure are produced by a naturally induced geo-electric field during geomagnetic disturbances. These currents can cause widespread interruptions of electric power and communications.
