Methyl tert-Butyl Ether (MTBE) in Ground Water, Air, and Precipitation at North Windham, Maine Methyl tert-Butyl Ether (MTBE) in Ground Water, Air, and Precipitation at North Windham, Maine
Thirty-one monitoring wells in the Windham aquifer in North Windham, Maine, were sampled for methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) from July 1998 to May 1999. MTBE was detected in 35 percent of the wells sampled in the Windham aquifer. MTBE was detected in 64 percent of wells in the high-yielding part of the aquifer; these wells account for 82 percent of all wells with detectable MTBE. Land...

Environmental Setting and Effects on Water Quality in the Great and Little Miami River Basins, Ohio and Indiana Environmental Setting and Effects on Water Quality in the Great and Little Miami River Basins, Ohio and Indiana
The Great and Little Miami River Basins drain approximately 7,354 square miles in southwestern Ohio and southeastern Indiana and are included in the more than 50 major river basins and aquifer systems selected for water-quality assessment as part of the U.S. Geological Survey's National Water-Quality Assessment Program. Principal streams include the Great and Little Miami Rivers in Ohio...

Environmental Contaminants and Terrestrial Vertebrates: Effects on Populations, Communities, and Ecosystems Environmental Contaminants and Terrestrial Vertebrates: Effects on Populations, Communities, and Ecosystems
The desire of resource managers, risk assessors, and the general public to better understand the consequences of environmental contamination has produced a strong and growing need for information on the effects of contaminants on populations and groups of species, and over moderate to large areas of land or water. However, the problems associated with research involving populations and...

[Book review] Ecological Scale - Theory and Applications by D.L. Peterson and V. Thomas Parker, editors [Book review] Ecological Scale - Theory and Applications by D.L. Peterson and V. Thomas Parker, editors
Covering the complexity of the scale topic, this volume represents an important compilation of information on a topic that is often misunderstood, and one for which little attention is paid (although, thankfully, this seems to be on the decline). Although technical, this book provides full exposure to the scale issue in ecology and is an important reference for researchers and resource...
