Indiana Dunes National Park

As seen from the Indiana Dunes, Lake Michigan stretches beyond the horizon like an ocean – and hundreds of millions of years ago, there was indeed an ocean here. Buried beneath the modern soils and sands of the Great Lakes region are layers of rock that were originally laid down in a shallow tropical sea.

Indiana Dunes National Park is the country's 61st National Park. Based in northwestern Indiana, the National Park lines Lake Michigan and offers more than 15,000 acres for visitors to enjoy and explore.
