The USGS maintains and monitors hundreds of streamgages across California, as well as across the Nation. Nearly all data collected by the USGS is made public and most in near real-time. Cities can use the data for flood mitigation and water supply.

As a hydrologic technician at the USGS, I gather and evaluate information about all things water-related. This includes obtaining measurements in the field, analyzing samples in the laboratory, and conducting analyses in the office in order to assist in solving water-related problems and to help in the making of water-resources decisions.
