Heating, cooling, and uplift during Tertiary time, northern Sangre de Cristo Range, Colorado (USA) Heating, cooling, and uplift during Tertiary time, northern Sangre de Cristo Range, Colorado (USA)
aleozoic sedimentary rocks in a wide area of the northern Sangre de Cristo Range show effects of heating during Tertiary time. Heating is tentatively interpreted as a response to burial during Laramide folding and thrusting and also to high heat flow during Rio Grande rifting. The regional extent of heating is shown by the distribution of low-grade metamorphic minerals, altered conodonts...

Estimating limiting age for pleistocene erosional surfaces in central Montana by uranium-series dating of associated travertines Estimating limiting age for pleistocene erosional surfaces in central Montana by uranium-series dating of associated travertines
Travertine deposits overlie the highest Number 2 surfaces in central Montana and clasts of travertine occur in gravels on lower Number 2 surfaces. Dating these travertine deposits may provide limits on the ages of surfaces that record intervals of extensive erosion during Pleistocene time. Analysis of three travertine samples from the southeast side of The Park yield an average uranium...

Tertiary volcanic rocks and uranium in the Thomas Range and northern Drum Mountains, Juab County, Utah Tertiary volcanic rocks and uranium in the Thomas Range and northern Drum Mountains, Juab County, Utah
The Thomas Range and northern Drum Mountains have a history of volcanism, faulting, and mineralization that began about 42 m.y. (million years) ago. Volcanic activity and mineralization in the area can be divided into three stages according to the time-related occurrence of rock types, trace-element associations, and chemical composition of mineral deposits. Compositions of volcanic...

Upper Oligocene evaporites in basin fill of Sevier Desert region, western Utah Upper Oligocene evaporites in basin fill of Sevier Desert region, western Utah
The basin fill beneath the Sevier Desert of western Utah contains evaporites that were deposited in a broad closed basin. All of the basin fill penetrated by the Gulf Oil 1 Gronning contains abundant volcanic detritus and its alteration products of Cenozoic age. Fission-track dating of tuffaceous sandstone yields ages of 26-28 m.y. Fossil pollen from mudstone in the evaporite-bearing...

The distribution and mobility of uranium in glassy and zeolitized tuff, Keg Mountain area, Utah, U.S.A. The distribution and mobility of uranium in glassy and zeolitized tuff, Keg Mountain area, Utah, U.S.A.
The distribution and mobility of uranium in a diagenetically altered, 8 Ma old tuff in the Keg Mountain area, Utah, are modelled in this study. The modelling represents an improvement over similar earlier studies in that it: (1) considers a large number of samples (76) collected with good geologic control and exhibiting a wide range of alteration; (2) includes radiometric data for Th, K...
