Mark Poe

Mark has been serving as a Physical Scientist at the U.S. Geological Survey’s New York Water Science Center since January 2023. In this role, he contributes to a wide range of interdisciplinary projects that support the USGS mission of advancing water science and resource management.

Mark’s expertise spans multiple domains, including hydrologic data analysis using Python and R, GIS-based spatial analysis and visualization, and the development of custom software and web applications using Python and JavaScript. He has played an integral role in designing and implementing stage regression models, parameterization methods, and echo intensity mathematical modeling.

His fieldwork experience includes thermal, PTZ, and trail camera operations, as well as geophysical data collection using seismic, time domain, and electrical resistivity methods. His is also skilled in topographic and geodetic surveying as well as studying groundwater–surface water interactions, with additional skills in hydroacoustic data collection and processing, water quality and streamflow monitoring, and related support activities. Mark also contributes to the preparation and analysis of imagery data in support of environmental assessments related to thermal, ice, and flow.

With a strong blend of analytical, technical, and field-based skills, Mark supports innovative solutions to complex water science challenges across New York and the broader region.
