Ray Postolovski

Biography

Ray is the Partner Support Section Chief at the National Geospatial Technical Operations Center (NGTOC) in Denver, Colorado. Ray received his degree in Cartography from Ohio University. Since joining the USGS in 2009, Ray has devoted his career to improving The National Map data and products. Presently, he is responsible for meeting strategic objectives by directing the hydrography stewardship program and leading a team dedicated to improving our nation’s surface water data.

The National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) and Watershed Boundary Dataset (WBD) are digital geospatial datasets that map the surface water of the United States and are a part of The National Map. The NHD represents the nation’s drainage networks and related features, including rivers, streams, canals, lakes, ponds, glaciers, coastlines, dams, and streamgages.

The NHD and WBD are managed by the USGS with collaboration, support, and cost-sharing with many other federal, state, and local entities. This includes formalized Stewardship Agreements with partners to improve the NHD and WBD locally.
