Richard Sutton is a seasoned Information Technology Specialist with over 35 years of experience delivering secure, scalable, and innovative IT solutions across aerospace, healthcare, and government sectors. Currently serving at the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) within the Department of the Interior, Richard plays a pivotal role in supporting scientific research environments—including mass spectrometry, geochronology, biogeochemistry, and paleobotany laboratories—by ensuring robust IT infrastructure and compliance with federal security standards.

Richard’s expertise spans Active Directory administration, AWS/cloud hosting, PowerShell scripting, and enterprise management tools such as Entra/Intune, MECM, and BeyondTrust. He has led initiatives to strengthen cybersecurity posture, streamline IT operations, and develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for IT procurement, surplus management, and property communications. His contributions include managing complex IT deployments, automating vulnerability remediation, and supporting high-profile programs like the Geosciences Center, Emeritus Scientist program, and TRIGA Nuclear Facility.
