About the Navigator
An online gateway for users such as state and local planners, resources managers, consultants, and researchers to more easily gain access to USGS coastal science data, products, tools, and information.
A nation prepared for coastal hazards
The USGS Coastal Science Navigator links to products that help users understand and mitigate the risks of
coastal hazards. These products—developed by the USGS and its partners—include data collections, visualizations, interactive tools, stories, and software, all aimed at protecting people and property along U.S. coastlines.
Developed for coastal professionals
Whether you're a coastal planner, emergency manager, or researcher, the Navigator streamlines access to products that help:
- Map and monitor coastal resources to inform investigations and planning
- Reduce risks to infrastructure by identifying areas vulnerable to erosion and flooding
- Promote resilience to extreme weather events using predictive models and real-time data access
- Support preparedness at local and state levels through tailored, science-based decision support
The Navigator is managed by the
USGS Coastal and Marine Hazards and Resources Program and is the result of a human-centered approach that
engaged potential users throughout the design process. First released in 2023 and updated regularly, the Navigator provides coastal professionals with a gateway to relevant USGS products through guided search functionality and a clean, simple user interface. Moreover, each product page includes plain-language summaries, usage examples, and links to related products and contacts—so users can find and use the latest science-based products in their coastal hazards projects.
