There have been 8 more overflows from the north vent since the Kīlauea daily update was released at 9 am HST this morning. Tilt and tremor remain constant. Inflation remains high. Steam and clouds continue to obscure the vents.

Kilauea Message 2026-09-23 00:25:40 HST
The second precursory flow ended at 12:18 am HST on September 23 after 34 minutes. Tilt remains flat and tremor unchanged during both overflows. This activity can go on for hours or days prior to a change in eruptive behavior.

The current dome fountain from the vent is approximately 80 feet (25 meters) high. It is feeding two lava flows that extend about 500 to 1000 feet (150-300 meters) to the northwest and southeast from the north vent.

A second vigorous overflow began from the north vent at 11:44 pm HST. Tremor and tilt remain unaffected by the eruption. A Volcanic Activity Notice was issued to mark the restart of precursory overflows.

The north, south, and west vents are all producing strong glow and frequent flames tonight. Magma is high in the conduit but below levels where continuous spattering is visible. Slow inflation continues; no activity outside of the summit.

No major changes overnight. Inflation has slowed significantly at the summit. All vents glowed brightly last night. Spatter seen in south and west vents.
