Chemical and biological data from acute toxicity tests with road dust suppressant chemicals and five freshwater organisms

Dust suppressants and soil stabilizer products are applied to unpaved roads worldwide to reduce dust production and stabilize road surfaces. Although these products may enter roadside surface water through runoff or leaching, little information is available on environmental fate or aquatic toxicity.

Stream classification and gravel bar inventory for Buffalo National River and Ozark National Scenic Riverways, 1982-2014

This data release contains numerous shapefiles that describe baseline characterization of the physical attributes of the riverine ecosystems in two national parks - Ozark National Scenic Riverways (ONSR), Missouri, and Buffalo National River (BNR), Arkansas.

Brecchia pipe uranium mine bird survey data, Grand Canyon region, 2014-2015

Containment ponds at uranium mines in the Grand Canyon region have been suspected to pose an attractive nuisance to local wildlife in this arid landscape. To determine the presence of bird species at uranium mine openings, we surveyed the bird community in the area surrounding the mines repeatedly within one year and summarized species occurrence.

Trace metals in water and biota in and near headwater streams in the Colorado Mineral Belt

This data release includes sampling location data, field-collected water chemistry data, cation and anion concentration data for water and tissues of submerged aquatic vegetation, aquatic insect larvae, adult aquatic insects and riparian spiders from 35 first- and second-order sub-alpine streams that ranged over several orders of magnitude in metal concentrations but were similar in elevation...

PCBs measured in three tributaries of the Niagara River Area of Concern (AOC), 2018-2019

Water-borne polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) were sampled in three tributaries of the Niagara River Area of Concern (AOC) in 2018 and 2019 using semipermeable membrane devices (SPMDs). This data set is a compilation of data from two sampling efforts, focused on determining the presence and distribution of total and congener PCBs in these tributaries.

With Levee (baseline) Inundation Metrics for the Middle Mississippi River

Within large-river ecosystems, floodplains serve a variety of important ecological functions. A recent survey of 80 managers of floodplain conservation lands along the Upper and Middle Mississippi and Lower Missouri Rivers in the central United States found that the most critical information needed to improve floodplain management centered on metrics for characterizing depth, extent, freque...

Mucket eDNA detection in Wallen’s Bend, Clinch River, Tennessee, September 2019

The data describe the technical performance of a designed qPCR assay for the detection of mucket (Actinonaias ligamentina) eDNA from field collected water samples. Parameters described include the sequences of the primers and probes used; the limit of detection and limit of quantification for the assay; a list of freshwater mussels species that were used to test specificity of the assay%3
