FORT scientists publish an updated annotated bibliography of greater sage-grouse research
A recently published USGS Open-File Report compiles and summarizes 147 research products about greater sage-grouse published between 2019 and 2022.
The Bureau of Land Management manages 67 million acres of greater sage-grouse habitat in 11 States across the species’ range and is in the process of amending land-use plans to consider developments in recent science, and address species habitat loss and population declines. However, given the large body of research available, finding and accessing the science information needed to inform such plans can be time consuming.
To assist in this process, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has created this latest in a series of annotated bibliographies that focus on topics of management concern for western lands. This annotated bibliography updates two previous versions (Carter and others 2018, 2020) to include science and data products through 2022.
The online version of this annotated bibliography (forthcoming on the USGS Science for Resource Managers online tool) will be searchable by topic, location, and year; it will also include links to each original publication, where available, and an option to download this information into an appendix suitable for inclusion in National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) analyses.
The ‘Annotated bibliography of scientific research on greater sage-grouse published from October 2019 to July 2022’ was authored by FORT student contract ecologists Elisabeth Teige, Logan Maxwell, and Lea Selby, FORT biologists Samuel Jordan, Tait Rutherford, Emma Dietrich, Ella Samuel, Alexandra Stoneburner, Jennifer Meineke, and Alison Foster, and FORT ecologists Sarah Carter and Nathan Kleist.
