Overview

In 2024, the Central African Republic was not a globally significant producer of mineral commodities. Production of diamond and gold contributed about 1.7% to the Central African Republic’s gross domestic product (GDP). The legislative framework for the mineral sector in the Central African Republic is provided by the Mining Code of 2024, law No. 24–008. The Ministère des Mines et de la Géologie [Ministry of Mines and Geology] oversees the mineral sector and is responsible for developing and implementing the national mining policy. Diamond and gold were mainly produced by artisanal mining located in various sites throughout the country. In 2024, the mineral industry (diamond and gold) accounted for 36.3% of the country’s total export of goods f.o.b. (free on board) by value, with gold representing 25.7% and diamond the remaining 10.6%.
