Statistics and information on the mining industry in Chad.

Overview

In 2024, Chad was not a globally significant producer of mineral commodities. However, the hydrocarbons sector continued to play an important role in Chad's economy, accounting for 76% of the country’s total exports value and 41% of Government revenues. Nonfuel mineral production represented only a minor part of the economy of Chad. Mineral commodities produced in Chad included cement. In addition, aggregates, clay, gold, granite, gypsum, lime, limestone, rhyolite, salt, sand, and soda ash (natron) may have been produced, but available information was inadequate to make reliable estimates of output. The legislative framework for the mineral sector in Chad is provided by law No. 004/PR/2018 of February 21, 2018, and implemented by Decree No. 2007/PR/MPME/2019. The Ministry of Mines and Geology [Ministère des Mines et de la Géologie] oversees the mineral sector and is the primary authority responsible for regulating mineral exploration and mining activities. Most mineral commodities were produced by artisanal miners and domestic and foreign private companies.
