Congo (Brazzaville)

Statistics and information on the mining industry in Congo (Brazzaville).

Overview

In 2024, Congo (Brazzaville) was not a globally significant producer of mineral commodities. Production of cement, copper, diamond, gold, and zinc represented only a minor part of the economy of Congo (Brazzaville). Although, clay, iron ore, lead, lime, limestone, niobium, quartz, sand and gravel, stone, tantalum, and tin may have been produced, available information was inadequate to make reliable estimates of output. In 2022 (the latest year for which data were available), the nonfuel mining sector contributed about 0.8% to the gross domestic product (GDP) or about \$129 million. The legislative framework for the mineral sector in Congo (Brazzaville) is provided by the Mining Code (law No. 4–2005), Decree No. 2007–274, Decree No. 2007–293, and law No. 24–2010. The Ministère des Mines et de la Géologie (Ministry of Mines and Geology) and the Direction Générale des Mines (Directorate General of Mines) are responsible for administrating the mineral sector. Most mineral commodities were produced by artisanal miners and foreign private companies.
