Mauritius

In 2024, Mauritius was not a globally significant producer of mineral commodities. The production of mineral commodities—notably crushed stone and gravel, fertilizers, sand, sea salt, and steel rebar—represented only a minor part of the economy of Mauritius. The mining and quarrying sector contributed about 0.3% to nominal gross domestic product. The legislative framework for the nonfuel minerals sector in Mauritius is provided by the Minerals Act of 1966. The Ministry of Commerce and Consumer Protection oversees the mineral sector in Mauritius and provides regulatory oversight, including the authorization of prospecting operations and the implementation of the Minerals Act.
