Statistics and information on the mining industry in Seychelles.

Overview

In 2024, Seychelles was not a globally significant producer of mineral commodities. The production of mineral commodities—mainly granite and salt—continued to represent only a minor part of the economy. The construction sector, which includes the production of construction materials (blocks, crusher dust, and aggregates), increased by about 6% in 2024 compared with that in 2023 and accounted for 6.6% of the nominal gross domestic product. The legislative framework for mineral extraction and mining in Seychelles is provided by the Mineral Act of 1962 and the Removal of Sand and Gravel Act of 1982. Ministry of Environment, Climate, Energy and Natural Resources provides environmental oversight, including the regulation of sand and gravel abstraction, energy policy, climate resilience planning, and sustainable resource management.
