Water Budgets

NAWQA is a program from the USGS that addresses the goals of that status of surface-water and groundwater, provide understanding of human impact, and to support local, state, and federal agencies with aforementioned data.

The purpose of this project was to provide a basin-wide vision for long-range goals and provide direction for guiding future water-resource management to the Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC) for updating its comprehensive plan. A systematic approach was developed for evaluating existing and future water withdrawals relating to available supply and environmental requirements.

Effective management of the Lake Hopatcong watershed requires a basic understanding of a water budget. This was done by measuring outflow by gaging outflow, measuring inflows by collecting discharge measurements at selected inflows and precipitation, and measuring areas of GW inflow and outflow by comparing groundwater level to lake stage

To determine regional low-flow relationships for both the 2-year and 10-year 7-day low flows throughout New Jersey, so that accurate estimations of these values at ungaged sites can be made
