The USGS Pennsylvania Water Science Center participates in the Consortium for Scientific Assistance to Watersheds (C-SAW) to provide free technical assistance to Pennsylvania-based watershed and conservation organizations.
C-SAW does not conduct watershed monitoring or assessments. Instead, C-SAW helps watershed organizations do a better job with their own monitoring and assessments.
Assistance is made possible by a Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection Growing Greener Grant awarded to Pocono Northeast Resource Conservation & Development Council and its six partner institutions located throughout the Commonwealth.
C-SAW aims to provide eligible groups and individuals with the skills and tools they need to evaluate, protect, monitor, and if necessary, restore their watersheds.
USGS technical assistance is available in watershed science areas including:
- Guidance on monitoring design and protocols
- Macroinvertebrate identification training and collection protocols
- Training in water chemistry protocols
- Quality control for water quality and ecosystem monitoring
For more details about USGS Pennsylvania Water Science Center C-SAW activities or possible assistance, please contact Mark Roland.
