Body composition and weight dynamics of wintering greater white-fronted geese Body composition and weight dynamics of wintering greater white-fronted geese
Adult greater white-fronted geese (Anser albifrons frontalis) wintering in southern Oregon and California increased or maintained body weight in autumn, lost weight from autumn through winter, and rapidly increased in weight before spring migration in late April. We documented significant annual differences in body weights for both sexes. We related seasonal changes in body weight to...

Begging behavior in budgerigars Begging behavior in budgerigars
Five hypotheses about relationships between begging rates, feeding rates and other variables were investigated in captive budgerigar nestlings from 23 days post-hatch to fledge date (Period 4). Within families, nestlings that begged more frequently during Period 4 were fed more often by their parents, but there was no indication that nestling weight on day 23 was related to begging rates...

Movements, home range, and territories of male sea otters off central California Movements, home range, and territories of male sea otters off central California
Sixty male sea otters (Enhydra lutris) were tagged on the rear flippers with colored tags. Of these, 46 (77%) were resighted. Movements of 127 km were documented for adults and 187 km for subadults. Adults maintained breeding territories that averaged 40.3 ha (n= 10, SE = 4.0). They returned to the same territory seasonally for up to seven consecutive years. Territorial males moved from...
