Quarterly mapping challenges updates and summary statistics: TNMCorps volunteers achieved some astronomical accomplishments over the past quarter!
City Halls Complete
For starters, volunteers helped us wrap up collection of city halls. We now have a comprehensive dataset of these features across all 50 United States, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa, and the Northern Mariana Islands.1
Almost 600 volunteers came together to edit over 20,000 unique points. This endeavor took approximately three years and eight months (September 2018 – May 2022) to complete. What’s especially cool about this is that most of these points were collected from scratch. Nice work!!
Post Offices in Record Time
TNMCorps also launched our first post offices challenge since 2014, and volunteers completed this challenge in only ONE WEEK!! That’s a first! There will be more of these challenges coming, so check back frequently.
Stellar Volunteers
Last but certainly not least, we have some stellar volunteers to applaud!
Superlemur completed their 50th challenge with the TX/OK Firestations challenge. BRAVO!!
TX/OK Firestations also served as the 40th challenge that trmosher participated in! Congrats!!
We routinely give shout outs to volunteers for every 5 challenges they’ve completed (e.g., 10, 15, 20, 25, or 30 challenges, etc.), so be sure to check the summary stats that we post at the end of each challenge. When a volunteer reaches a more prominent milestone (such as 40 or 50 challenges), we’ll give them a shout-out in our newsletter as well.
What’s Next?? Points With No Edit History
Now that city halls have wrapped, challenges are transitioning to points with no edit history. Starting this month with fire stations, we’ll be publishing articles highlighting tips and tricks for the feature types that make up a majority of points with no edit history.
