TNMCorps User Guide

Similar to how OpenStreetMap allows anyone to collect, edit, and use geographic data through an online mapping application, the USGS has developed a web-based map editor to allow volunteers to participate in the collection and verification of structures data. After going through a tiered quality assurance process, the structures data gets incorporated into The National Map.

What do TNMCorps volunteers do?

TNMCorps volunteers use our custom web-based map editor to collect, modify, delete, and verify structures data. They conduct internet (or in person) research on each structure data point, and make any necessary changes to the name, address, symbol, or location of that point. TNMCorps volunteers can also create new data points to represent the structures we collect or delete points that represent structures no longer in operation.

Volunteers can collect and update the different structure feature types in all 50 states and U.S. Territories.
