Documentation of Mitochondrial Genomes of Micropterus cataractae, Micropterus henshalli, and Micropterus punctulatus
This dataset contains the complete mitochondrial genomes of three black bass species: Micropterus cataractae (shoal bass), Micropterus henshalli (Alabama bass), and Micropterus punctulatus (spotted bass). These genomes were generated to address longstanding gaps in available reference data and to support conservation, biosurveillance, invasive-species management, and environmental DNA (eDNA) assay development. Sequence reads associated with this work were produced from specimens collected within each species’ native range and assembled into full circular mitogenomes. These include 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNAs, 2 rRNAs, and noncoding control regions typical of centrarchid mitochondrial architecture. All original sequencing reads are archived in the NCBI Short-Read Archive under BioProject PRJNA1332672. Assembled and annotated genomes are available in the NCBI GenBank under accession numbers: PV833101 (Micropterus henshalli), PV833102 (Micropterus cataractae), and PV833103 (Micropterus punctulatus).
