Geochemical data for garnet in igneous rocks of the Mineral Hill alkaline complex, Wyoming

October 5, 2026

The Mineral Hill alkaline complex (MHAC), located on the northwest side of the Black Hills uplift near the Wyoming–South Dakota border, is composed of several alkaline igneous units emplaced into Precambrian metasedimentary rocks and Paleozoic strata. The purpose of this study was to determine whether MHAC garnets are a major host of rare earth elements (REEs) and whether REE patterns distinguish magmatic from metasomatic processes. This dataset contains analytical results of garnet by X-ray diffraction (XRD), electron probe microanalysis (EPMA), and laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS). Additionally, backscattered electron images are provided with annotation for the EPMA analytical spots.
