Valuable mentoring tip:
- Those who do not establish a schedule early in their relationship are more likely to fizzle out later, and
- Motivation fades rapidly when mentoring conversations lack purpose.
If you want your mentoring partnerships to succeed you need to establish a rhythm of regular, purposeful contact. You need to maintain the momentum and motivation with prompt meaningful conversations, not a random chat.

The USGS Mentoring Program is a tool that provides cost-effective training and development to all participants, encouraging professional and personal growth. It is an effective form of training with a personal side that provides unique benefits to both mentoring partners.
