Hydrography Community Calls
USGS sponsors the monthly Hydrography Community Call. Our focus is on hydrographic data, projects, research, and ideas that relate to the USGS Hydrography Program. Presenters have included scientists, data stewards, GIS analysts, engineers, educators - people applying, analyzing, or generating hydrographic data for the nation.
Mainstems
Mainstem rivers are the backbone of a connected network of hydrologic units that cover the landscape. A mainstem connects a headwater source area to an outlet. This data release identifies the same mainstem paths in hydrographic datasets for the conterminous US.
Abridged History of Hydrography Datasets
Over the last several decades, numerous geospatial hydrography datasets have been used in the United States. The overall trend has been to incorporate more hydrographic features represented with more spatial detail in each successive dataset.
