Legacy data are an important component of the USGS Alaska Science Center’s (ASC) commitment to deliver actionable information relevant to decision makers and science related to the earth’s natural hazards, natural resources, and ecosystems. The term “legacy” refers to project data that are complete, or may be resurrected in the future, that were previously stored in old or obsolete formats that were difficult to access. Through the concerted efforts of data scientists and staff at ASC, these data are now available in an accessible format. The links below contain standardized data releases from the USGS Alaska Science Center. Please check back often as new data releases are frequently posted!

Breeding Biology, Behavior, and Morphology of Emperor Geese and Other Waterfowl near Kokechik Bay, Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuge, Alaska during 1982-1988
This data package presents legacy data on Emperor Goose, Cackling Goose, Black Brant, and Greater White-fronted Goose, breeding biology, behavior, and morphology collected at study sites near Kokechik Bay on the Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuge (previously Clarence Rhodes National Wildlife Refuge), Alaska during the summers of 1982 through 1988. These data were collected to provide a basis forBreeding Biology of Loon and Waterfowl Species on the Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuge, Alaska during 1973-1975
This data package presents legacy loon and waterfowl breeding biology data collected at study sites near the Old Chevak Field Station on the Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuge (formerly the Clarence Rhode National Wildlife Range), Alaska during the summers of 1973 through 1975. These data were collected to provide a basis for the evaluation of long-term changes in loon (Pacific and Red-throatedData Supporting Studies of Brant and Other Waterfowl Disturbance Behavior, Distribution, and Diet at Izembek Lagoon, Alaska, 1985-1988
This data package presents legacy data collected during 1985-1988 at Izembek Lagoon on the western end of the Alaska Peninsula. The data were collected in support of a multi-year study focused on aircraft disturbance of waterfowl, particularly Black Brant, Emperor Geese, and Cackling Geese. The study was conducted at Izembek Lagoon and included several study sites within the lagoon: Halfway Point,Observation Data of Migratory Birds during Spring and Fall Migration and their use of Habitats in the Yakutat Foreland of Alaska
This data package presents raw legacy data collected during 1980 on the Yakutat Forelands of southeast Alaska. The data were collected to identify and understand the occurrence and distribution of birds and mammals in the ocean and wetlands near Yakutat. Migration "sea watches", aerial surveys, and ground plot surveys were conducted in the foreland area of Yakutat in spring (April - May) and fallAlaska Science Center Data Sheets from Intracoelomic Transmitter Implant and Liver Biopsy Surgeries in Birds, 1993-2012
These are surgery data sheets filled out during operations on many bird species by the USGS Alaska Science Center, 1993-2012. The majority of surgeries were to implant intracoelomic tracking transmitters, but a subset were to collect liver biopsy samples. The data sheets provide information about individual surgeries, including: data about each bird, the timing of steps during each operation, admiData Supporting Studies of Waterbird and Arctic Lake Ecosystems within the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska, 1974-1992
This data package presents raw legacy data collected during 1974-1992 on the Arctic Coastal Plain (primarily in the National Petroleum Reserve - Alaska; NPR-A). The data were collected in support of a long-term multi-species wetland ecosystem study that aimed to provide an understanding of occurrence and densities of bird, mammal, fish, invertebrate, and plant species. The study included the TesheBenthos Sample Data from Izembek and Nelson Lagoons, Alaska, 1998
This data set contains a single table of descriptions of benthic samples collected in 1998 at Nelson and Izembek lagoons, Alaska. This includes: the weight of the sample, the species or species group of benthic animals (also vegetation) and their number, size and weight, and the amount of sand and gravel. These data provide a basis for additional studies that includes sampling of the benthos in Ne
