Kay Beeley, National Park Service, Bandelier National Monument, NM
Kay has worked in the Resource Management division at Bandelier since 1992. She was hired to assist Craig Allen with multiple long-term ecological studies and bring GIS to the park. Her other park unit was Yosemite National Park where she worked in the Prescribed Fire Program, monitoring lightning fires, and monitoring and planning for prescribed burns.
Hope Nowak, USGS Student Contractor
Hope started as an intern at the field station in July 2022 after graduating from Grinnell College with a BA in Biology and Gender, Women’s, & Sexuality Studies. Since joining the field station, she has worked on a variety of projects from fire history to vegetation transects. In particular, Hope is contributing to the establishment of long-term ecological monitoring plots in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains to investigate the influences of forest treatments on tree and understory vegetation resilience.
Melanie Wright, Conservation Legacy Intern
Melanie has been an ecology intern for the field station since June 2023. She graduated from Southern Methodist University in May 2023 with a BS in Anthropology, focused on archaeology. Her senior thesis focused on fire intensity in the Jemez Mountains over the last 9000 years, and she is excited to continue researching fire in Northern New Mexico. She is involved with various projects at the field station, including stand mortality, long-term ecological monitoring, and dendroecology.
