WHISPers, the Wildlife Health Information Sharing Partnership - event reporting system, is a web-based repository of basic information on current and historic wildlife mortality (death) and/or morbidity (illness) events reported by partners nationwide.
It is also the portal to request diagnostic and epidemiologic services from the USGS National Wildlife Health Center.
Background
The primary goal is to provide natural resource management partners and the public with timely, accurate information on where wildlife disease events are occurring or have occurred for better awareness and decision making. The information is opportunistically collected by natural resource partners and does not reflect all mortality events in North America.
Natural resource management agencies can also use WHISPers to request diagnostic and epidemiological services from the USGS National Wildlife Health Center.

The concept for WHISPers was developed by the USGS National Wildlife Health Center (NWHC), in partnership with federal, state, tribal, non-governmental, and academic partners. System software was initially developed by the NWHC and then refactored by USGS Web Informatics and Mapping, with funding assistance from the Department of Homeland Security’s National Biosurveillance Integration Center and the USGS Ecosystems Mission Area.
For more information on WHISPers, we have two videos available to view. What is WHISPers? video (3 mins.) gives a introduction to WHISPers and WHISPers Overview video (24 mins.) provides a more detailed overview.
