Surveyed Campsite Areas along Colorado River in Grand Canyon, Arizona, 1999 - 2024
September 4, 2025
This shapefile depicts individual campsites areas surveyed at 37 sandbar sites along the Colorado River through Grand Canyon, from Lees Ferry to Diamond Creek, from 1999 to 2024. Campsite areas were measured through total station surveys, outlining the perimeter of areas available for camping use at each study site. Campsite area is defined as an area with smooth substrate, typically sand, that is mostly free of vegetation and a slope of less than 8 degrees. Campsite polygons are three-dimensional, with ellipsoid height (GRS80 referenced to NAD83) values for all campsite polygon vertices. There is one surveyed campsite per object in the 'SurveyedCampsites_1999-2024' polygon shapefile.
